While Maxwell scored a 36-ball 76, which included 8 maximums, it was Faf’s innings that produced more roars on social media. Du Plessis. The former Proteas skipper was up against his former team and played a brilliant knock despite struggling with an injury.
The 38-year-old injured his abdomen while fielding in the first innings and was seen getting some taping done to his stomach during the strategic time-out in the second innings. While it looked like Maxwell and du Plessis will take RCB home in no time, the quick wickets of both batters gave an opening to MS Dhoni and Co. The partnership was broken in the 12th over of the run chase when Maxwell miscued a delivery from Theekshana and handed a tricky catch to CSK skipper MS Dhoni. Soon after Maxwell’s dismissal, Faf du Plessis fell to Moeen Ali and the rest of the RCB batting line-up crumbled, handing CSK an 8-run win.
Earlier, after being put to bat, CSK scored a mammoth 226/6 thanks to some brilliant batting by Devon Conway (83), Shivam Dube (52), and Ajinkya Rahane (37).
Faf du Plessis takes Orange Cap
With his stunning knock of 62, Du Plessis replaced KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer in the race of Orange Cap. Du Plessis now has 259 runs from five matches followed by Iyer who slips to the second spot with 234 runs. Punjab Kings’ skipper Shikhar Dhawan is third on the list with 233 runs.
