Fact Check: Was Rohit Sharma crying after India beat England to reach T20 World Cup Final?

Rohit is one of the few players who's played every single edition of the T20 World Cup but hasn't been able to lift the trophy since India won the inaugural edition.

After a long wait of 10 years, the Indian cricket team has reached the T20 World Cup. Handing England a 68-run defeat in the semifinal makes the victory even more sweet. Two years ago, Jos Buttler’s side battered the Men in Blue in Adelaide in what was one of India’s worst-ever defeats.

When Jasprit Bumrah fired in that yorker to end things, the Indian players and management were overjoyed. The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, arguably played the biggest role in Guyana. Such was the magnitude that fans spotted Rohit overcome by emotions and crying when he reached the dressing room.

Was Rohit Sharma crying after beating England?

Was Rohit Sharma actually crying, or was he just relaxing after toiling hard in the field for hours as rain stopped and started the game multiple times? It turns out, Rohit wasn’t tearing up but just wiping off the sweat. Having spent more than an hour batting and around two hours fielding, it was natural that the Indian skipper was tired.

Naturally, people believed that he was shedding a tear after remembering how disappointed he was when England beat India by 10 wickets. Everyone assumed that he wanted to take revenge so badly, and therefore he couldn’t handle his emotions.

After winning the India vs England semifinal, Rohit Sharma said in the post-match interview, “Very satisfying to win this game. We worked really hard as a unit. To win this game like that was a great effort from everybody. We adapted to the conditions really well. The conditions were a little challenging; we had to adapt, and that’s been the success story for us so far in this game. We have adapted to the conditions really well and played the conditions really well. The bowlers and the batters, if they play according to the conditions, things fall in place, and that’s exactly what happened for us today. Very pleasing to see how we came through this game.
