Sanju Samson always remain in the headlines. Whether he’s playing, not playing, performing, failing – the Keralite possesses an extreme amount of fandom. However, given his immense potential and talent, it is fair to say that Samson has nowhere near fulfilled his potential.
Samson should be given more chances: Binny!
Despite making his T20I debut way back in 2015, he has played just 30 matches in the format and hence former India player Stuart Binny has remarked that India should give Samson more opportunities. On the sidelines of the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC), Binny had an exclusive chat with Insidesport. During the interaction,
“Look, I would like to see Sanju Samson get a little bit of a better run at number four. Now that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not there, I think he’s done extremely well in the small opportunities that he’s got. And I’d like to see him get more opportunities.”
With the three T20Is against Bangladesh coming up, the focus will remain on Samson. After all, the Rajasthan Royals skipper recorded two ducks in the recent T20Is against Sri Lanka. Samson’s record in the shortest format, regardless of his talent, is quite mediocre. In the 30 T20Is, he has made only 444 runs at an average of 19.30. Binny, son of current BCCI President Roger Binny, has played quite a few IPL seasons with Samson at RR.
Binny on Virat Kohli’s concerning form
Virat Kohli’s return in red-ball cricket didn’t enthrall fans as he scored just 6 and 17 across both the innings in the ongoing Chennai Test against Bangladesh. While Kohli is enduring his worst-ever year in international cricket, Binny believes that this is nothing to worry about.
“You can’t score in every match. He has a record that speaks for himself. You are going to to miss out in one or two matches, but that’s OK. He’s a legend of the game and, he’ll definitely do well in the series,” said Binny.
Stuart Binny is currently part of the Toyam Hyderbad team in LLC, led by Suresh Raina.
