The debate over who is the greatest Indian cricketer of all time often boils down to two names: Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. While both have dominated world cricket, their styles and leadership qualities have distinct characteristics. Former New Zealand pacer Danny Morrison recently weighed in on this debate in an exclusive chat with Insidesport.
Dhoni or Kohli?
MS Dhoni is often lauded for his calm demeanour, exceptional wicket-keeping skills, and his ability to finish matches with aplomb. Known as “Captain Cool,” Dhoni’s leadership qualities are still known to be the best ever. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, is absolutely renowned for his aggressive batting and remarkable consistency. He has surpassed greatness, especially in ODIs, being the current batter with the most runs in world cricket.
However, while talking to Insidesport, Morrison unequivocally chose the ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni. Morrison praised Dhoni’s all-round abilities, including his captaincy, wicket-keeping, and finishing skills. He argued that it was difficult to find a cricketer who could match Dhoni’s complete package.
“That is a no-brainer, that gotta be MSD (MS Dhoni). Well, when everything about captaincy, the inspiration, the finisher, keeping that got better with fast hands, it is hard to beat MS Dhoni,” said Morrison when quizzed to choose between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
