EXCLUSIVE: Chris Gayle snubs 6-time champion Rohit Sharma from all-time IPL XI, includes CSK star as surprise

In an exclusive chat with InsideSport, Chris Gayle revealed his all-time IPL XI, making some notable inclusions, including Virat Kohli and Bumrah.

The IPL 2025 is currently underway, and the action is on. Whenever we talk about IPL, a few names come to mind, and one of the biggest names in IPL history is the Caribbean opener Chris Gayle. The same batsman who, in 2013, smashed 175 runs in an innings, which is still the record for the highest score in T20 cricket. Nobody has been able to replicate the feat and legacy Chris Gayle has created. He has played with three teams in the IPL, including KKR, Punjab Kings, and RCB.

Recently, Chris Gayle spoke exclusively to InsideSport, where he also shared his all-time playing XI in IPL. Let’s take a closer look at the choices made by the ‘Universe Boss’ himself.

No Rohit Sharma in Gayle’s all-time XI

In his all-time IPL XI, he has included four overseas players and seven players from India. However, notably, one of India’s greats and a six-time IPL trophy winner, Rohit Sharma, is absent from the list. As an opener, Chris Gayle has chosen himself and Virat Kohli to start the innings and dropped other batters.

Surprise inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja

Surprisingly, Chris Gayle has included Ravindra Jadeja, who, although a big player and creator of many chances and memories, may not be considered among the best IPL players in the tournament’s history. However, at number 5, he has chosen Ravindra Jadeja.

No Warner or Malinga

Chris Gayle didn’t include David Warner or Lasith Malinga in his playing XI because he wanted to choose Malinga but realised he could only include four overseas players. “In the end, I need two fast bowlers. However, I can’t pick Malinga because I already have four overseas players, so I have to go with Bumrah now.” Gayle said. As a result, Malinga is absent from the list, although he mentioned that Warner could have been on the bench.
