Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis has been named Delhi Capitals vice-captain for IPL 2025. The former South Africa batter was bought by DC for Rs 2 crore in the mega auction. Previously, du Plessis had served has RCB’s captain for a couple of seasons before he was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction.
Faf du Plessis named Axar Patel’s deputy in DC
Delhi Capitals took to social media platform X to make the announcement on du Plessis as the vice-captain for the upcoming season. The ex-South Africa skipper will now act as deputy to Axar Patel. By confirming du Plessis as vice-captain, DC have indirectly confirmed that he will be a part of the playing XI for sure in most games.
The Proteas star has captained RCB in 42 matches out of which he has won and lost 21 matches each. He holds the record for being the second best skipper for RCB after Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid.
Faf du Plessis started out his career in the IPL with CSK and then moved on to Rising Pune Supergiants when the five-time champions were banned from the league. He then returned to CSK following which he was released in 2022. He then took over the reins from Virat Kohli at RCB and led the team for two years before he was released ahead of the mega auction in 2024.

After a significant delay, DC announced Axar as captain for IPL 2025. The all-rounder succeded Rishabh Pant, who was released by the franchise and was bought by LSG for Rs 27 crore.
