Forcefully, you can’t do anything: Saha backs Ishan Kishan & Shreyas Iyer after BCCI contract snub

Wriddhiman Saha advises Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan to treat all matches equally after being snubbed from BCCI contract for 2024-25

Former India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha advises Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer to treat all matches equally. His comments come at the back of the duo being snubbed from BCCI’s contract for 2024-25. Both Kishan and Iyer missed the Ranji Trophy 2024.

Saha’s two cents on Iyer-Kishan BCCI contract snub

“That is BCCI’s decision and personal decision of concerned players. Forcefully, you can’t do anything,” Saha said about Kishan and Iyer’s axe.

“Whenever I am fit I play, even I played club matches, office matches as well. I always treat a match as a match. All matches are equal for me. If every player thinks on those lines, they will only prosper in their career and it will be better for Indian cricket as well,” he said.

“I feel the importance of domestic cricket is always there because if I talk about Sarfaraz Khan, he had scored plenty of runs in the last 4-5 years. Definitely, he has delivered.”

Why was Ishan Kishan axed?

Ishan Kishan pulled out of South Africa series citing mental fatigue. While that did not sit well with the BCCI, Ishan repeatedly ignored calls to play in Ranji Trophy.

He had a chance to come back to the Test team with KS Bharat struggling. But with no domestic cricket to back his claims, Ishan was snubbed.

And as a result, he is out of the BCCI Central Contract. Last year, Ishan was in Grade C.

Why was Shreyas Iyer axed?

As for Shreyas Iyer, it’s tricky. He was an all format player till last year. He was a regular in Test, ODI and T20I depending upon his fitness.

But after he was dropped from the Test squad after a string of disappointing performances, he complained of back spasm and skipped Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match.

While he has returned to the squad now, ignoring BCCI’s advice has gone against him.
