Former South Africa cricketer Herschelle Gibbs brooded over Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma’s fitness after the latter limped off the field on Day 1 of the IND vs SA Test. Gibbs invoked Virat Kohli, highlighting that even India were fitter than the SA and that the credit for that goes to the mindset instilled by the former skipper.

Responding to a comment on Bavuma’s injury, the former SA cricketer noted that it was ironic for the Proteas coach to allow an ‘unfit and overweight’ player to play while he joined as the side’s trainer in 2009.
What happened to Bavuma?
Bavuma suffered a left hamstring strain while fielding during the first day of IND vs SA 1st Test, the scans confirmed.
Bavuma suffered the injury in the 20th over when he was chasing the ball from mid-off. The Proteas’ skipper managed to stop the ball but damaged his hamstring while running. He was then escorted out of the field with the help of team’s physio.
