India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was one of the chief architect of India’s emphatic win in Rajkot in IND vs ENG 3rd Test. Jaiswal smashed an unbeaten 214 in the third innings to help India set a mammoth 547-run target.
The dynamic opener hit 12 sixes during his innings, equalling the record of most sixes in a Test innings held by Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram.
Akram had hit 12 sixes in his 257-run knock against Zimbabwe in 1996.
Reacting to Jaiswal’s stunning feat, Akram made a cheeky remark, stating that his record was equalled but not broken.
“My record wasn’t broken, it’s been equalled by Yashasvi Jaiswal. People talk a lot that it was Zimbabwe, but it wasn’t that easy. I remember we were around 170/6 when I went to bat”, Akram said on A Sports.
Akram’s innings had helped Pakistan draw the match, while Jaiswal’s innings powered India to their biggest-ever Test win by 434 runs and a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
India, who were without several key players due to injuries and personal reasons, showed their depth and talent as captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a century in the first innings.
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who returned from a hamstring injury, shone on his home ground with both bat and ball.
Jadeja scored a crucial century in the first innings and picked up a 5-wicket haul in the fourth innings to help India secure win.
The fourth Test will be played in Ranchi from February 23.
