England will defend T20 World Cup title, need Ben Stokes to fire: Ravi Bopara

In the T20 World Cup 2022, England had first beaten India in the semis, and then Pakistan in the finals, to claim their second title.

The England limited-overs side is going through a bit of a rough patch in the last couple of months, as they lost in the league stages of the World Cup 2023 and, post that, failed in the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies recently. Now the big question is, can England defend their T20 World Cup title, or things would pan out like the 50-over World Cup?

In an interview with the Times of India, former England all-rounder Ravi Bopara said that England will defend their title. “England are a very strong T20 side. They are much stronger in T20Is than in 50 overs. I am confident that England will go on and defend the T20 World Cup title.

“There are so many players in England’s T20 side who can turn the game on its head. Jos Buttler is there. Will Jacks is there. Adil Rashid is there. They are class acts who have been doing very well for so many years. Every single player in the T20 side is a match-winner for England and can turn the match at any given time.”

He went on to add, in order to win, England will not only need Ben Stokes but will need him to bowl. “England will need Ben in the T20 World Cup. He is a match-winner. He can come and play under any situation and any can take pressure off the team.

“He is excellent in both departments – bat and bowl. It is important that he bowls for England so that he can be the sixth bowling option for the team. His presence will also ensure England have a big and strong batting lineup,” Bopara said.
