Pakistan is eager to host the Champions Trophy 2025 at home. However, the BCCI stands against their hosting the ICC event as they aren’t willing to travel to Pakistan. To combat their neighbour’s tactics, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is rallying support from other boards. A few days ago, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) reassured PCB that they’d back them to host the event in February-March next year. Now, it’s the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that supports them.
ECB backs PCB to host Champions Trophy
Richard Gould, ECB’s CEO, has backed Pakistan to host the Champions Trophy 2025. He said that he talked with his PCB counterpart Mohsin Naqvi at the ICC annual meeting in Sri Lanka, and both boards are in agreement that Pakistan should entirely host the ICC event and that it shouldn’t be held in a hybrid model.
“There’s a great deal of determination to make sure it is. Particularly from the PCB and the ECB,” said in an interview with BBC Test Match Special.

Fans in Pakistan & India want it
Gould added that he feels cricket lovers in India and Pakistan both want to see India vs Pakistan matches, but politics gets in the way. Mere months ago, India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma expressed a desire to play a Test series, claiming that they already play at ICC events, so why not elsewhere as well?
“We were in Sri Lanka over the weekend for ICC meetings, and you see Pakistan cricket supporters and India cricket supporters getting on so well, but as soon as the political element is put in, it creates issues,” Gould added.
