England, Scotland to join forces as Great Britain for LA28 Olympics

LA28 Olympics: England Cricket Board & Cricket Scotland hold initial talks to play as Great Britain in Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Los Angeles Olympics, i.e LA28 will see Cricket being included at the mega event. Each team would be eager to sed their best cricket team, 4 years from now. And the England Cricket Team would be no exception to the same. However, the English Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Scotland are planning to join forces under Great Britain.

The rules for qualification is yet to be unveiled. But, if England manages to qualify, they will play under Great Britain banner. And this opens the possibility of joining forces with Scotland. Several star Scottish players can join the English players as GB and take part in the tournament.

Minimum Age: 18+

Not just limited to Men’s cricket, the move will also be applicable for the women’s cricket team as well. Both the respective cricketing bodies of ECB and Cricket Scotland have begun their preliminary talks on the matter. Not just with players, Scottish members of the support staff is also expected to be part of the entire unit.

“With the Los Angeles Olympics four years away, it’s very early stages, but we’re talking to Team GB and Cricket Scotland about the next steps we need to take,” an ECB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo.

It is also good news for English cricket given that they would be hosting the Women’s and Men’s ICC T20 World Cup in 2026 and 2030 respectively. And with LA28 happening in between, it will serve as a perfect chance for both England and Scotland to join hands together.

“Along with England and Wales hosting Women’s and Men’s [T20] World Cups in 2026 and 2030, it’s another great opportunity to grow the game and inspire more people to develop a love for cricket,” he concluded.
