England Playing XI vs IND: India vs England 3rd ODI LIVE: England leveled the series 1-1 at Lord’s against India. But it was their bowling performance that won them the match. Reece Topley was the hero as his 6/24 powered England to a 100-run win. But the poor form of Jason Roy, Joe Root and Ben Stokes in ODIs is becoming a concern. Thus, the England batters spent extra time at the nets of Old Trafford in Manchester ahead of the series decider on Sunday. Follow IND vs ENG LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The 1st ODI ended up in a batting disaster for England as they were bowled out for 110 at Oval. The 2nd ODI did not help much. Moeen Ali pulled off a rescue act after England were down to 102/5. England’s Test heroes Joe Root and Ben Stokes failed to fire. The in-form Jonny Bairstow failed in the 1st match while Jos Buttler failed in the 2nd. Liam Livingstone has blown hot and cold but he hasn’t managed to find his rhythm against an overwhelming Indian bowling attack.

Jason Roy was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, England vs India, 1st ODI, The Oval, July 12, 2022

But it is Jason Roy whose struggle is real. In the five matches against India so far, Roy has been dismissed for a duck twice. His top score in the series is 27 and his strike rate is not helping matters either. English media has already pushed him on the brink of retirement, at least in ODIs.

“The Twenty20 World Cup in October, not to mention next year’s defence of England’s 50-over crown, is beginning to look a long way away for the Surrey opener, with Phil Salt leading the array of big-hitting alternatives at Buttler’s disposal,” DailyMail wrote.

England Playing XI vs IND: Will England make any changes for final ODI?

  • Jos Buttler has been following Eoin Morgan’s philosophy of backing players until they are absolutely out of form.
  • Since 2019 World Cup, Jason Roy has played 18 ODIs, scoring just 452 runs including one century that came against Netherlands. He is averaging just 30.13 and that is a concern for England.
  • But considering England’s approach, Buttler could retain Jason Roy in the Playing XI at least for the 3rd ODI.
  • Overall, England’s struggle against spin is another concern, considering it will play a major factor in India in 2023 World Cup.
  • Yuzvendra Chahal bagged four wickets and all others struggled against him.
  • That was evident at the nets session. England batters concentrated on playing local spinners of Indian origin at the nets to prepare for Ravindra Jadeja and Chahal.
  • However, if England decide to put their best XI, Philip Salt is available in the middle-order while someone like Jos Buttler or even Liam Livingstone can open the innings with Jonny Bairstow.
