England Playing XI revealed for ENG vs AUS 2nd Ashes Test, Ben Stokes makes BIG change

England skipper Ben Stokes has announced the Playing XI for the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord's with a shocking exclusion.

ENG vs AUS, 2nd Ashes Test: With the second Test of the ongoing five-match Ashes 2023 series between England and Australia just a day away, England captain Ben Stokes has released their Playing XI with a shocking change from their last match playing line-up. The match will be played at the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground, a week after Australia won the first Test by two wickets and took a crucial 1-0 lead.

England Playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue

Captain Ben Stokes has decided to drop Moeen Ali, who came out of retirement to play as their frontline spinner in the absence of Jack Leach. Ali, who had bruised his finger after bowling a whopping 33 overs out of the 116 England bowled in the first innings. However, the offspinner couldn’t do much in the second innings, picking up a single wicket and bowling just 14 overs out of the 92 that England bowled.

Ali is now being replaced by right-arm pacer Josh Tongue, who made his Test debut earlier this month against Ireland. Tongue, who plays for Worcestershire in county cricket, made his mark in the one-off test and picked up a fifer in the second innings of the match. The pacer will also provide the English side with some steam, being the fastest bowler in the line-up.

This shocking exclusive, however, means that the pitch for the 2nd Ashes Test may be pace-friendly as England will be playing without a spinner despite the inclusion of leg spinner and teen prodigy Rehan Ahmed in the squad ahead of the Lord’s Test.
