England playing XI – India vs England LORD’s TEST: As England prepares for the second Test at Lord’s against Virat Kohli-led India, Joe Root & Co will undergo a big headache in selecting playing XI. The batting department completely faltered against India in the opening Test. Skipper Joe Root was the only positive in the batting department as other batsmen even failed to score a fifty. The top order has become a big setback since their tour of India coupled with the recently concluded Test series loss to New Zealand. With a number of changes expected in the second Test, England coach Chris Silverwood indicated that Haseeb Hameed is closer to a Test recall.
‘I would rather be accused of giving somebody one too many chances than not enough – I’ve made that clear from the start – but at some point I will have to make a decision,’ Silverwood told Dailymail.

England playing XI Notably, Haseeb Hammed had last played for England in November 2016. A broken finger had cut short his impressive start to his England career in India. He then lost his form but now has rebuilt his game with a century against India in a warm-up match in Durham.
‘I’m confident he’s as ready as he could be. I think he is making a very strong case and at some point, we may make a decision and give him an opportunity,’ Silverwood stated.
‘He’s been fantastic. As a bloke he’s fitted in beautifully, he works extremely hard and he’s looked extremely good in the nets. He put his best foot forward in Durham when he scored that hundred and what he did early season in the championship shows there’s a lot of class there as well,’ he added.

Silverwood further stated that Moeen Ali could be added to the group as he offered a fresh balance to the side.
‘I can say that Moeen is certainly under consideration for us. He’s always been part of our consideration,’ said Silverwood, adding, ‘That’s something that Joe and I are going to chat about at Lord’s when we sit down for a coffee and go through the potential 11. I think it’s something that has to be in our mind.’
Meanwhile, Ollie Pope will undergo fitness checks at Lord’s before a final call.
