England premier pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of the possibility of playing any cricket for the next four months, following an operation on his left knee, as per a report in CricInfo. That effectively means, that the speedster will miss Test series vs India, that is slated to start at Headingley, Leeds, on June 20.
Mark Wood Out of India vs England Tests
Wood had undergone a surgery on Wednesday and scans post the procedure confirmed medial ligament damage. That injury had surfaced during England’s Champions Trophy clash against Afghanistan in Lahore. In fact, he had a poor CT 2025 campaign, where he gave away 125 runs in two matches, picking up only one wicket.
During the AFG match, he had to go back to the pavilion, after experiencing “locking” in the knee. Having said that, the 35-year-old is expected to be fit for the Ashes series, post the India vs England Test series. Speaking about his injury, Wood said, “I’m gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year. But I’ve got every confidence that I’ll be back firing on all cylinders now that I’ve been able to sort my knee out.
To be Fit for 2025 Ashes
“I want to thank the surgeon, the doctors, staff, my England teammates and coaches for their support – and, of course, our fans. I can’t wait to get back and contribute to what is going to be a huge 2025 for us as a team.” It is important to note that Mark Wood, so far in his career, has fared poorly against India, but has a decent track record for England in Tests.
Versus India, in four Tests, he has picked up 9 wickets at an average of 50, while overall in 37 matches he has 119 wickets at an average of 30.42. Against Australia he has been mighty effective as in 11 matches he has bagged 41 wickets at an average of 27.
