England getting ‘lightning quick’ Jofra Archer ready for T20 World Cup 2024, pacer impresses in training with Sussex

'Lightning quick' Jofra Archer is slowly making big steps towards his much-awaited return to competitive cricket.

England’s hopes for the upcoming T20 World Cup have gotten a significant boost with Jofra Archer’s impressive return to form. The star fast bowler has been training with his county side, Sussex, and according to Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace, Archer is bowling with “exceptional pace.”

Farbrace’s comments come amidst England’s clear plan to have Archer ready for the marquee tournament. The upcoming mega event is scheduled to take place between June 2 and 29 in the West Indies and U.S.A.

This news is particularly exciting for England fans, considering Archer’s struggles with injuries over the past few years.

Adding to the optimism, former England and Sussex quick bowler James Kirtley claims to have recently clocked Archer bowling at speeds comparable to his pre-injury days. This return to top pace bodes well for Archer’s ability to make a significant impact on the international stage.

Jofra Archer looked in good rhythm in Bengaluru last month

In March, Archer was seen playing in India, Bengaluru. He played for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) XI against his county team Sussex in Alur.

Archer, a key member of England’s 2019 World Cup victory, has been sidelined for nearly a year due to an elbow injury sustained during the IPL. Since 2021, his appearances for England have been limited, with his last international appearance coming in March 2023.

However, with the T20 World Cup approaching, England are handling the 29-year-old with care. Archer’s last match in competitive cricket was during the IPL 2023.
