England Women on Saturday experienced a damaging 347 defeat in the IND W vs ENG W one-off Test in Mumbai. The visitors were outplayed by the hosts as Heather Knight’s side failed to get a hold on the match. England captain Knight came up with an excuse after the match, claiming the ‘super extreme’ weather conditions aided their defeat.
The England Women succumbed to the highest-ever defeat in women’s test cricket, losing by 347 runs. Their off-form with the bat was noticeable too, as they were bowled out for 136 and 131 in their two innings.

After the match, England captain Heather Knight said, “There are plenty of learnings we can take from this. In the main formats we play, which are in white-ball cricket, you’re not often exposed to conditions like this. It was super extreme and I’ll be surprised if we play in something like this again unless we play a Test match here in the near future.”
India scored 428 in their first innings, with four batters making fifties, while the only England player to go fifty was Nat Sciver (59) in the first innings.
In reply to India’s declaration of 186-6 in the second innings, England needed 478 runs to win. Deepti Sharma’s spin was too much for the visitors to take. Deepti finished with a 9-wicket haul in the match, as England had no answer to the off-spinner’s questions.
