ENG vs SL LIVE: Wanindu Hasaranga stars again, goes past Shamsi to take most wickets in a calendar year  – Wanindu Hasaranga has starred again for Sri Lanka and the broken multiple records in the process. The Sri Lankan all-rounder picked up a magnificent three-wicket haul to peg back leaders England in a do-or-die match, to further signal his brilliant form over the T20 World Cup. With his three-wicket haul, Hasaranga has become the leading wicket in the competition this year, while also going past Tabraiz Shamsi for the wickets in a calendar year. ENG vs SL LIVE: Wanindu Hasaranga stars again, goes past Shamsi to take most wickets in a calendar year 

Wanindu Hasaranga starred for Sri Lanka yet again as he spun webs around the English batsmen in yet another game-changing performance for the Islanders. After his hat-trick against South Africa went in vain, and the Sri Lanka leg spinner chipped in with yet another three-wicket haul, despite the onslaught from Jos Buttler. Bowling in the powerplay, Hasaranga delivered a body blow to England when he dismissed in-form opener Jason Roy, skittling his stumps with a peach of a delivery. 

He then followed it up another stunner to get the better of Jonny Bairstow, who departed for a first-ball duck. Hasaranga wasn’t done yet, and he returned to send back captain Eoin Morgan to the pavilion later in the innings His third wicket was his 50th in T20Is, making him the fourth bowler to reach the milestone. Lasith Malinga is at the top of the tree with 107 wickets, while Ajantha Mendis is the only other spinner to have reached the milestone for the Islanders.

Wanindu Hasaranga’s three-wicket haul also meant that he went past Tabraiz Shamsi, to pick up the most wickets in T20s in a calendar year. Shamsi had set the record in the game against Sri Lanka, taking his tally to 32, while Hasaranga had 31 entering the game against England. His three wickets, mean that Shamsi is two behind and among the chasing pack. He is also the leading wicket-taker in this T20 World Cup, picking up 14 in the tournament, leapfrogging Shakib Al Hasan’s tally of 11.
