The only time, England was on top was in the first over of the match when David Willey returned with a wicket maiden. But then on, it was South Africa who dominated. Reeza Hendricks despite a sluggish start, took on Chris Jordan and Reece Topley. He smashed 50-ball 70. After the early blow, it was his 55-run stand with Rilee Rossouw that helped South Africa steady the ship.

While Rossouw departed after an 18-ball 31, Aiden Markram joined in. Markram and Hendricks added 87 runs to take the attack to England. Markram returned to the side in place of Heinrich Klassen and was an instant hit. Markram was also off to a slow start but he accelerated in the end, smashing 36-ball 51. In the end, it was David Miller’s 9-ball 22 that took South Africa to 191/5.
However, it went horribly wrong for England in the chase. After a decent start, Jos Buttler was the first to depart and it opened up all the floodgates at one go. Jason Roy, Dawid Malan, Moeen Ali all failed. While Moeen was off to a good start, it was Tristan Stubbs’ superhuman catch that saw England lose all hopes.

Tabraiz Shamsi ran down the lower order, bagging his first fifer of T20I career with career-best figures of 5/24 to bowl out England for just 101.
