“Root has minimum five years left in him, so I think Tendulkar’s record is very achievable. Root is batting as well as I have ever seen him bat over the last 18 months to two years. He is in the prime of his career, so there is 15,000 runs-plus for him if he stays healthy,” Mark Taylor told Sky Sports.

Joe Root smashed his 26th Test century on Sunday against New Zealand, powering England to a five-wicket win at Lord’s in the 1st Test. With that, he moved a step closer to Tendulkar’s record.
Sachin Tendulkar scored 15,921 Test runs in 200 Test matches. Amongst active cricketers, Joe Root is the only batter close to the mark but still, 5906 runs away. His next competitors are Virat Kohli (8043) and Steve Smith (8010). David Warner (7753) and Kane Williamson are also in the fray.

But he is the youngest of the lot to get to the 10,000-run mark. He has age by his side to get to break Tendulkar’s record. Joe Root is 31 years old while Virat Kohli (33), David Warner (35) and Steve Smith (33) have less cricket left in them.
“He has always looked a world-class player. His technique is pretty much what it was, he has a straight rhythm and fluency to his game. There is a whole heap of runs left in him,” former England captain Nasser Hussain told Joe Root.
