Earlier in the day, Australia managed to cross the 400-run mark in their first innings thanks to another superb century from their star batter Steve Smith. However, the Three Lions also bounced back well as they scalped 7 wickets for just 100 runs as Australia ended their innings after posting 416.

Smith engaged in two 100-plus stands with Travis Head, who Joe Root removed for 77, and Marnus Labuschagne, who was caught behind for 47. While Usman Khawaja, David Warner’s opening partner, was dismissed for 17 by Josh Tongue earlier, Warner hit a half-century. Following their 73 run partnership for the first wicket, Tongue dismissed Warner for 66 in a similar manner.

James Anderson and Stuart Broad got plenty of movement on a pitch that appeared to be sluggish, but couldn’t get a wicket. 149 runs were scored in the last session, however England still managed to make a comeback thanks to Joe Root’s two wickets, which removed Travis Head and Cameron Green. Ollie Robinson took one wicket, while Tongue and Root both took two for England.
