Ind vs WI: The Indian selectors have made some bold decisions after Team India’s debacle in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final. The selectors have decided to look ahead and have dropped Cheteshwar Pujara for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies, starting from July 12.

While Pujara’s snub was a big call by Indian selectors, it wasn’t unexpected.
The 35-year-old has struggled to find his form, managing only one century in his last 28 Tests since 2020.
With an average of 29.69, Pujara’s numbers have been far from impressive.
With the selectors picking young Ruturaj Gaikwad & Yashasvi Jaiswal in the main Test squad, it seems an end of the road for the Test veteran who has been part of Indian Test team since 2010.
Pujara made his Test debut in home Test series against Australia in 2010. He made his first appearance as Indian Test player in the second Test of the series in October 2010 in Bangalore.

In addition to the change in vice-captaincy and Pujara’s exclusion, the Indian team will witness a few other changes. Pacer Mohammad Shami has been given a rest, and Mukesh Kumar has been called up to fill the void. The selectors have also snubbed Umesh Yadav for the Caribbean tour.
The highly anticipated Test series between India and the West Indies is scheduled to commence on July 12 and will be held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in Dominica. The second match of the series is slated to take place from June 20 to June 24 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.
