End of Test career for Shakib Al Hasan? Ace all-rounder fails to reach Dhaka

No farewell Test match for Shakib Al Hasan in Dhaka? Ace Bangladesh Cricket Team star fails to turn up for BAN vs SA 1st Test

Shakib Al Hasan’s Test cricket career could have just been over. The ace Bangladesh Cricket Team all-rounder was slated to play his last match against South Africa in Dhaka. However, the player was unable to make it to the capital of the country and uncapped player Murad has been brought in as Shakib’s replacement.

This essentially means that the much-awaited Test farewell in Dhaka won’t happen for Shakib Al Hasan. Initially, there were doubts about Shakib traveling back to his country. Shakib while traveling from New York to Dhaka waited in transit in Dubai. The former captain of the side was uneasy about returning to his country after protests regarding him.

No Farewell Test for Shakib Al Hasan?

Shakib Al Hasan has been away from home for a long time. He hasn’t made it back to the country after the fall of the Awami League’s government. Following the collapse of the government, murder charges have been levied upon Shakib, demanding his immediate arrest upon returning to the country.

While playing against India, Shakib claimed that the 1st Test in Dhaka against the Proteas would be his farewell Test match. But that won’t be the case now. “We have been informed that Shakib is unavailable for the first Test. He is at the end of his Test career but along with his experience, we still do not have someone of that calibre with both bat and the ball to replace him,” said chairman of BCB’s national selection panel Gazi Ashraf Hossain.

Young uncapped player Hasan Murad comes in as the replacement for the veteran. The 23-year-old has already raked up 136 wickets from just 30 first-class matches after having made his debut in 2021.

“However, Hasan Murad has performed consistently in first-class cricket and has been in our system. He will lend balance to our bowling, especially in home conditions. We believe he has the potential to deliver at this level,” Ashraf Hossain concluded.
