‘End of an era’: Aakash Chopra reveals what defines Rohit Sharma as a ‘captain’

Rohit Sharma was labelled as a 'modern great' by Aakash Chopra who called the end of his captaincy as the 'end of an era'

Former cricketer Aakash Chopra remarked that it was an ‘end of an era’ as Rohit Sharma was replaced by Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain. The five-time IPL winning captain was replaced by the team’s latest trade from GT ahead of IPL 2024 in an unprecedented move. Chopra hailed the Hitman as one of the finest captains and revealed what was the parameter to judge Sharma’s captaincy.

‘Rohit Sharma one of the finest…’

In a recent video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra opined that Rohit Sharma was a very fine captain who understood the pulse of the game and managed the team well. Lauding him for ‘keeping the team ahead of self’, the commentator noted that the former MI skipper did everything the franchise wanted him to do over the years.

“Rohit Sharma was one of the finest captains—10 years, five trophies. A very successful captain. He understands the pulse of the game and managed the team really well. He always kept team ahead of self. Whether it was opening for the side or batting down the order, he did everything for Mumbai Indians that was asked of him,” Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

End of an era, modern great’

Further, Aakash Chopra highlighted what were the parameters to judge Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. He said that the stars who played under the Hitman wanted to continue doing so and that it defined him as a player and as a captain. Chopra called the end of Hitman’s captaincy as an end of an era, labelling the former skipper a ‘modern great’.
