Emirates T20 League – IPL Flavor in EmiratesT20: The most of franchise owners in forthcoming Emirates T20 League has a Indian Premier League (IPL) connect. Not only this but the league is touted to be a brainchild of former IPL chief operating officer Sundar Raman. And now the potential broadcast partnership for the league will also have another IPL & BCCI connect. According to information coming in from sources in Emirates Cricket Board, currently the discussions are going on with ZEE group to come on board as the official broadcaster for the league. The deal is yet to be sealed according to the sources – but is in an advance stage. ZEE other than India has a tremendous presence & following in the Middle East & various other global territories. The network is one of the most followed platform among Indian diaspora and is tipped to be a big LAUNCH-PAD for the Emirates T20.

Emirates T20 League: Former IPL & BCCI Head Honchos behind Emirates T20, ZEE likely to be roped in as broadcaster

IPL Flavor in EmiratesT20: The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has already announced Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Ltd as one of the team owners. Reliance, owned by the Ambani family, runs the most successful IPL team, Mumbai Indians. This will be the first time, Reliance will participate in a T20 cricket league outside Indian shores.

Nita Ambani, co-owner and architect of Mumbai Indians said, “With great pride and joy, we take our Mumbai Indians brand of fearless cricket to new geography.

“While Mumbai Indians will continue to remain at the heart of our cricket operations, the popularity of global T20 leagues and the attractiveness of the UAE market offer a unique opportunity for us to further unlock the value of our sports management expertise. It also allows us a platform to develop young international talent and share best practices both on and off the field.”

InsideSport earlier had already revealed that GMR, that owns 50% of Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders also have signed up with the league.

According to the sources, Premier League giants Manchester United’s Glazers family will also own one of the team and so will be Ahmedabad-based micro finance company Capri Global.

The sixth team in the league will be owned by Big Bash League team Sydney Sixers.

Former IPL COO behind Emirates T20: It was earlier reported by TOI that league is a brainchild of IPL Chief Operating Officer Sunder Raman. The league will be run by Emirates Cricket Board & will be fully approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It was reported that Raman has been working on the league since last two years.

The league will have a unique business model where the franchises will invest on an annual basis and work on substantial returns through broadcast and sponsorships.


When the league will start? The new league is likely to start middle of February 2022 and will finish before IPL 2022. The BCCI is yet to give any official statement on the new venture by ECB.

Will Indian Cricketers Play? Emirates Cricket officials are confident that BCCI will support the venture & some of the Indian cricketers will also be seen in action in the league.
