Nepal cricket team’s rise, both on and off the field, continues to grow leaps and bounds. After impressing with their on-field antics, the team has now bagged ICC Digital Fan Engagement of the Year award for their meteoric rise on social media. The ICC Development Awards are aimed at promoting the game in Associate Member nations.
Nepal shine, this time off field
The craze for cricket in Nepal is not unknown and the team has made the best use of social media to tap into that. The side has witnessed a 300% increase in followers over the last two years and now boast 840,000 followers on Facebook, a 250,000 increase from six months ago.
A CAN offical pointed out that social media was a blessing for the side as it made players more relatable and recogonizable to the fans.
“Social media is really important,” Das added. “It has made players more relatable and recognisable to the fans,” Das said.
“It has also led to a growth of people coming to the ground because fans have become more aware. And on a bigger level, it means there are more global eyes on the Nepal cricket team.
