The Emerging Player Award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) honours promising young talent who showcase exceptional skills throughout the tournament. Since its inaugural season, the IPL has witnessed a multitude of rising stars earning this prestigious accolade. From the inaugural season to the latest edition, each year has seen a standout performer recognized for their outstanding contributions to the league. An exceptional performer receives the “Emerging Player Award” from the event each year.
The Emerging Player of the Season award was first given out in the IPL in 2008 to Shreevats Goswami of Royal Challengers Bangalore; Rohit Sharma of the Deccan Chargers took up the trophy in the 2009 edition. The only foreign player to have won the trophy thus far is Mustafizur Rahman, who did it in the 2016 campaign.
Iqbal Abdullah of CSK won the prize in 2011, whereas Saurabh Tiwary of MI took home the honor in 2010. Following their awards, both players vanished from sight because they were unable to repeat their achievements in subsequent seasons.
Sanju Samson (2013), Axar Patel (2014), Shreyas Iyer (2015), Rishabh Pant (2018), Shubman Gill (2019), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (2021) are some of the other well-known recipients of the award. The winner was Umran Malik, a speedster.
