India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav is livid with reports of leading a coup in Mumbai Ranji team. Reports suggested that SKY is playing a lead role in urging some of the players to consider a move to Goa Ranji team. It came after India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a switch to Goa from Mumbai for the next domestic season.
On Twitter, Suryakumar Yadav hit back in his own style, “Script writer hai ya journalist? Agar hasna hai toh I will stop watching comedy movies and start reading these articles. Ekdum bakwas.”
Suryakumar Yadav to Goa?
SKY, who has scored over 5700 runs for Mumbai since making his debut in 2010, is a valuable asset for the team. While he hasn’t played many domestic matches of late, SKY could play many more in the 2025-26 season. BCCI issued a diktat asking centrally contracted players to play domestic matches when they are not playing for India.
However, with Mumbai Playing XI crowded and SKY still aspiring for a Test spot, there could be a potential move. Reports claimed that Goa Cricket Association was in talks with multiple cricketers for a move after they earned a promotion to the Elite group.
“We are currently in talks with many players from the country. I can’t give you a name right now. We will be finalising other professional players soon,” GCA Secretary Shambha Desai told Times of India.
But there was another report where it was claimed that SKY was leading the charge of convincing other Mumbai players for a potential switch to Goa. SKY has disputed that.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal made a sensational switch to Goa for a leadership role.
“It was a very tough decision for me – Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai – The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA – Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an opportunity which came my way and I just took it,” Jaiswal said in his email to the Mumbai Cricket Association.
