Indian young guns have stood up multiple times in the India vs England Test series. First, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored over 634 runs in the series, then Shubman Gill in Vizag and Rajkot, and now it’s wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel. The 23-year-old batted along with tailenders and scored an imperious 90 to save India in the 4th Test in Ranchi.
However, what made the headline was his special celebration after reaching his maiden Test fifty. After completing a single off Tom Hartley and reaching the landmark, the right-handed batter made a ‘salute’ gesture. It was revealed that his father was a Kargil War veteran, and his celebration was to honor him for his service to the nation. After the end of the third day’s play, Jurel revealed the reason behind his ‘salute’.
“My father indirectly told me yesterday, ‘Ek salute to dikha de (show me the salute once)’. He was a Kargil War veteran, so my celebrations were for him,” Dhruv Jurel said while talking about his special celebration after scoring his maiden Test fifty.
