England Test Cricket Captain: Ben Stokes should lead England’s Test team, say former captains

  • Key has extensive knowledge of domestic games and he has served a long time as county captain.
  • He has represented England in 20 international matches, including 15 Tests.
  • He maintained a relationship with current players by turning into a commentator.

Acting MD Andrew Strauss was vocal about the changes required to take England back to the pinnacle of cricket after Ashes & WI tour humiliation. He said that the country needed to be bold & ambitious after England registered 1 win in the last 17 Tests. He is trying to look out of the box by bringing in the likes of Sir Dave Brailsford to assist him in a new review into English cricket.

England Next Test Captain: One of his biggest jobs for Rob Key will be to appoint a new captain after Joe Root’s exit as Test captain. Root’s resignation puts Ben Stokes as the favourite for the role of England Test captain.

Stokes took an indefinite break from cricket in July to focus on his mental health while also recovering from a second operation on a broken finger, but returned to the England squad for the Ashes series.

The 30-year-old has not been training after suffering pain in his left knee in March, but he is on course to return for the County Championship next month for Durham.
