ECB Iftar Dinner – ECB celebrates Ramadan with Iftar dinner – The England Cricket Board and the Wales Cricket Board hosted the first ever Iftar dinner at the iconic Lord’s stadium to take an inclusivity approach. Last year Azeem Rafiq, Pakistan-born player was subjected to racism at his club Yorkshire. What was the incident? – Azeem Rafiq, a former Yorkshire all-rounder, levelled allegations that he had been subjected to racism by players and coaches during his two stints at the county club. England internationals Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali called for the ECB to tackle racism in cricket and expressed their solidarity with Rafiq.
Currently, according to Islamic calendar the holy month of Ramadan is ongoing with majority Muslims observing fast during the day time.
ECB shows solidarity – This year ECB decided to throw ice on the hot matter by hosting the Iftar dinner which was hosted by commentators Aatif Nawaz and Tameena Hussain. The event was attended by host of big names including current and former players as high-profile dignitaries also attended the dinner. The host of players included England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan and Tammy Beaumont, while former England head coach Graham Gooch was also in attendance with Azeem Rafiq.

Appreciation from all corners of the society – Rafiq tweeted on the occasion as well, while Pakistan cricketer Shaheen Shah Afridi was also seen appreciating the effort put by PCB. Eoin Morgan also tweeted on the occasion as ECB tired to make a good case of unity and stating there is no room for racism in the game.
