ECB announces squad for IND vs ENG Test series, Chris Woakes dropped

With the series likely to be a spin-heavy clash, the England side have included 4 spinners in the 16-member squad.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Monday announced a 16-man squad for IND vs ENG Test series which will be played early next year.

Ben Stokes, who is recovering after a knee surgery, will lead the squad for the 5-match Test series, starting on January 25 in Hyderabad.

Three Lions have called up three uncapped players – Gus Atkinson, Tom Hartley, and Shoaib Bashir in the squad.

Meanwhile, Chris Woakes, Will Jacks, Dan Lawerence and Liam Dawson are the notable players missing from the squad.

With the series likely to be a spin-heavy clash, the England side have included 4 spinners in the 16-member squad.

Wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, who had a brilliant outing behind the stumps on team’s last Test outing in India, has been recalled in the squad.

Jack Leach and Ollie Pope are the other two players who have returned to England’s Test squad.

Notably, England have not won a Test series in India since 2012/13. On the last tour, the Joe Root-led side England suffered an embarassing 3-1 series defeat.

England Squad: Ben Stokes (captain), Rehan Ahmed, James Anderson, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes (Wk), Tom Hartley, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Mark Wood
