India C’s captain Ruturaj Gaikwad shrugs off injury concerns, returns to bat in Duleep Trophy

The score was 4/0 when Gaikwad limped off, and when he came in, it was 286/3.

Ruturaj Gaikwad returned into the middle about 6 hours after he suffered an unfortunate injury in the India B vs C match. Leading the India C side, Gaikwad had reported suffering an ankle injury while sprinting for a quick single on just the second ball of the match.

It was unsure whether the opener would return to the crease at all, much less today. But, after losing Ishan Kishan in the 72nd over of the match, Gaikwad stepped into the field. The score was 4/0 when he limped off, and when he came in, it was 286/3.

He’s scored 42 in 48 balls following his return, and at the end of the first day’s play of the India B vs C match, the score is 357/5. He’s batting with Manav Suthar, who averages nearly 30 with the bat and has three fifties to his name in 15 first-class matches. With three days still left in the game, Gaikwad would look to take the score past 500 and notch up a century on the way.
