Duleep Trophy: 233 never looked like a walk in the park. After being dismissed for 164 in the first inning, it looked unlikely that India C would chase down 233 runs. But Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sai Sudharsan gave them a rollicking start. They brought up the 50-run opening stand in just eight overs, and it looked like the India C vs D match would easily end in their favour. It was all breezy, with around 70 runs to chase down with 8 wickets, but then the momentum completely shifted.
Suthar gets it done with both bat and ball
With India D eight wickets down, Manav Suthar, who’d claimed a five-wicket haul yesterday, claimed two more wickets and ended the innings. All of the last wickets that fell were taken by Suthar, as he ended with a 7-fer. Axar Patel and Harshit Rana hit a couple of boundaries, but 30 runs are all India D could add in the first session. They dominated the first session completely.
However, Gaikwad and Sudharsan’s wickets gave India D some hope. 77/2 was the score, and 156 runs were still needed, and barring Baba Indrajith, no India C batter had done much in the first inning. Rajat Patidar and Aryan Juyal then stitched a massive (in the context of the game) 88-run stand. When Patidar was stumped on 44, the game was in their favour.
But like the first time, one wicket brought two. Juyal missed his fifty as well while trying to hit a maximum over covers to Arshdeep Singh. Indrajith and Hrithik Shokeen followed Juyal’s suit, both skying the ball and getting caught out to rash shots. From 165/2, India C were 191/6. Abhishek Porel was then joined by Suthar, who’d brought them back into the game with the ball.
The duo stitched a 41-run stand to take them home. Suthar played second fiddle, scoring just 6(37). However, in the 61st over, he went berserk and hit Saransh Jain for 13 runs and ended the match.
