England are not having a good day on the field in the IND vs ENG 1st Test. England on Thursday lost all three reviews in the last session of the day itself. Ben Stokes and his team made some poor judgement to lose all three allotted reviews within first 14 overs of India’s innings. This became a record, as 13.2 overs is the earliest a fielding team has burnt all their reviews in an innings. The previous earliest was Jason Holder in 16.1 overs against England in Manchester in 2020.
However, DRS has not been kind to India too. Rohit Sharma’s team lost all three of their reviews during England’s innings.
After getting all out for just 246 on the first day of the first Test, England were desperate to take wickets when India came out to bat. The Ben Stokes-led team took their first review during the third over of India’s innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who went on to score a brisk half-century, heaved at a ball from Tom Hartley. Ben Foakes gathered the ball and broke into an appeal. When it was turned down, Joe Root convinced Stokes to go for the review. However, the replay showed neither Jaiswal’s bat nor gloves were even close to the ball.
England’s next review was also off the mark as Rohit Sharma was nowhere near the ball as well. However, their third review had some merit as Shubman Gill was caught in front of the stumps by Hartley. In spite of the ball not hitting Gill’s bat, ball tracker showed the ball bouncing above the wicket. It led to England’s third review getting wasted as well.
India were no better than their English counterparts in taking reviews too, as Rohit Sharma and co lost all three of their reviews during England’s innings. However, it seems like England will have more of a problem than India in terms of reviews, as India still have nine wickets remaining on the time this article.
