DRS Sept 23: No rest for Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant the Bangladesh captain & IND A win Duleep Trophy

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

On the back of a sumptuous six-wicket haul by Ravichandran Ashwin, Team India packed Bangladesh for 234. This led the hosts to clinch a 1-0 lead in the ongoing Test series, continuing their tradition of dominating, especially at home. Apart from this, we even saw the culmination of the Duleep Trophy, with Mayank Agarwal-led side ‘India A’ emerging victorious of the prestigious tournament. In the meantime, BCCI even named the Indian Test squad for the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. It will be an unchanged team, meaning no rest for Jasprit Bumrah. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was also in the news.

No rest for Jasprit Bumrah

The BCCI has retained the same 16-member squad for the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. Despite expectations of Jasprit Bumrah being rested, he will continue to be part of the team. This is despite India being scheduled to play 3 Tests against New Zealand in November before locking horns for five Test match series against Australia. Yash Dayal, who didn’t get a chance to play in the 1st Test, is also set to remain in the squad.

Ashwin – the GOAT!

Ravichandran Ashwin, the local hero, played a pivotal role in the fabulous 280-run win, scoring a century and then claiming a five-wicket haul. This remarkable feat made him the first Indian to achieve this four times in a Test match. Ashwin’s century in the first innings (certainly his best-ever) was followed by a sensational five-wicket haul in the second, sealing India’s victory by a comfortable margin.

Rishabh Pant or Bangladesh captain?

Rishabh Pant’s cheeky advice to Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto during the India vs Bangladesh Test match was a light moment in the tie. Pant suggested field placements to Shanto, leading to a lively exchange post-match with former cricketer Saba Karim. When questioned about his actions, Pant responded by highlighting the importance of playing cricket respectfully, regardless of who’s on the field. He even criticized Shanto’s field placement for Taskin Ahmed, implying that the Bangladesh captain wasn’t fully in control of his team’s strategy.

No takers for PAK vs ENG

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might face a financial crisis. After their shocking 2-0 loss to Bangladesh, the PCB is struggling to sell the rights for their upcoming Test series against England. Neither Pakistan nor England have found a buyer for the series. The BBC, a potential radio rights holder, hasn’t confirmed its involvement. The PCB may be forced to sell the rights at a discounted price, incurring substantial losses.

Rohit-Kohli form…No Issues!

While India recorded a handsome win in Chennai, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, massively underperformed. They scored a combined total of just 34 runs. Despite the criticism, former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar defended the duo. He emphasized the fact that no player can consistently score runs in every match. Praveen Kumar, who is a bowling coach in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) pointed out that the team combination has been fantastic and people should focus on that instead.

India A – Duleep Trophy winners!

India A has clinched the Duleep Trophy 2024 title after defeating India C by 132 runs on the final day of the tournament at Anantapur Stadium. A tight bowling performance from Prasidh Krishna and Tanush Kotian prevented India C from chasing down the target of 350 runs. The match went right to the wire, with Prasidh racking up 3 wickets in the last 4.1 overs. Shashwat Rawat was the player of the match for his impeccable knocks of 124 and 53.
