DRS, May 13: CSK, RCB keep IPL Playoffs hopes alive, Chinnaswamy finally favours bowlers

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru picked up crucial wins in the double-header contest on Sunday to keep their hopes of qualifying for the IPL Playoffs strong and alive. The task for DC on the other has become complicated as the lost the do-or-die match to Bengaluru by 27 runs. As for RR, the signs are a little alarming at the moment, having lost 3 games in a row after completing the first half of IPL 2024 in a rather stellar fashion.

Sunday was filled with drama, with both games providing some controversial and memorable moments. From Ravindra Jadeja’s obscure dismissal to Virat Kohli’s animated chat with the umpires, there was no shortage of twists from both games in Chennai and Bengaluru. On that note, let’s take a look at some of the top headlines from Sunday.

Another injury for Thala?

MS Dhoni, the heartbeat of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), seems to be battling a new injury concern – a back niggle. This adds to the growing list of physical hurdles Dhoni has faced in recent seasons, including ankle and knee issues. During CSK vsRR, Dhoni was spotted requesting a back brace in the third over of the RR innings.

Bowlers day out in Bengaluru

RCB picked up a crucial victory against DC, keeping their hopes of making it to IPL playoffs alive. RCB bowlers were on top of the game right from the start of DC’s run-chase, inflicting damage at regular intervals. DC lost both their openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and David Warner early in the innings. Stand-in skipper Axar Patel was the lone warrior for the side as he led the fightback with a valiant half-century. With this loss, it is all but over for DC who have one game left in the league stage. RCB won the game by 47 runs.

Deja vu for Jadeja

In an unusual turn of events during the CSK vs RR IPL 2024 match, Chennai Super Kings’ star Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for obstructing the field. While CSK won the match, Jadeja became the first player from the Chennai-based franchise to get out via this manner.

Rajat Patidar, RCB’s saviour vs DC

Rajat Patidar seems to be getting better with each passing game as IPL 2024 nears the end of the league stage. After a top-order failure against DC, Patidar played the rescue act by scoring a 52-run knock off 32 deliveries. The batter was instrumental in helping RCB reach a defendable total and smashed three fours and sixes each as he took on the DC bowlers.

Door shut for Rahane’s IPL dreams?

CSK dropped Ajinkya Rahane from their playing XI in the final home game in Chennai against RR. The veteran batter’s performances has been below-par so far in IPL 2024, despite having played in most matches for the side this year. With the mega auction coming up ahead of IPL 2025, it can might as well mean that Rahane has played his final match.

Old friends reignite banter

It was a classic West Delhi showdown at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru! During the do-or-die RCB vs DC IPL 2024 clash, Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma, two long-time friends, went head-to-head in a display of pure cricketing camaraderie (and a dash of friendly fire).
