DRS, March 30: Virat Kohli continues to ooze class as KKR break streak in IPL 2024

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

What a day of Cricket for the fans! King Virat Kohli yet again oozed class with his sublime batting. However, it was the better team of the day, i.e Kolkata Knight Riders who walked away as the winners of the tie. KKR batted extremely well and walked away with match with 7 wickets to spare. Here, let us take a look at some of the most interesting events of the day.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a big total, playing at their home ground. RCB batted first and went on to register 182/6 after 20 overs. The chief architect of the innings – King Kohli. Right on song, Virat Kohli went on to slam back to back fifties as he currently tops the Orange Cap charts with 181 runs. Here is your dose of Daily Review System for March 30.

King Kohli On Prowl

It is a delight for cricket fans, especially Virat Kohli fans. The former India and RCB skipper looked like a man on a mission. Kohli went on to slam back to back fifties in the IPL and now currently is the highest run getter of the tournament. Kohli’s heroic batting of 83 unbeaten helped his post a massive total on the board. But more importantly, it is also good news for Team India. Just ahead of the T20 World Cup, if the country’s ace batter is on song, it can mean – it is game over for the others.

Too Costly, No Result

It is safe to say that Mitchell Starc has been a costly player for the Kolkata Knight Riders. During IPL 2024 auction, KKR broke the bank to rope in the Aussie champ for a price of 24.75 crores. But the huge investment hasn’t yielded any result as of now. Starc has leaked runs in both of his games so far and is yet to bag a solitary wicket. Starc has given 100 runs in both matches. Currently, KKR has spent more than 350 lakh on the bowler, but are yet to receive any return on their investment.

End Of The Streak – 9-1

Nothing lasts forever, as streaks come to an end. A similar incident happened today. KKR became the first away team to win in IPL 2024. Since Day 1 of the IPL, it has been downright domination of the hosts. Each of the hosts have manage to etch out a win by hook or by crook. Ultimately it was the Men in Purple who travelled to Bengaluru, outclassed RCB to seal a 7-wicket win and break a stunning streak.

King Kohli surpassed MS Dhoni

Another day and another record has been smashed by Virat Kohli. The star RCB batter has gone on to surpass MS Dhoni in terms of most sixes hit in the Indian Premier League. MS Dhoni has slammed a total of 239 sixes, but that record has been surpassed by Virat Kohli. The RCB batter aced 4 sixes to go past Dhoni’s record to register 241 sixes. Kohli is now 4th in the list of most sixes hit in IPL.

Venky Iyer goes Sky High in Bengaluru

The RCB vs KKR was a high scoring affair in Chinnaswamy. But KKR batter Ventakesh Iyer stood strong against the RCB bowlers. He also smashed a brilliant fifty. However, the highlight of his innings was the highest six hit in IPL 2024. Venky Iyer went on to hammer a massive 106 meter six. The colossal six was so huge that it landed on the roof of the Stadium.

Instant Impact for KKR

KKR made a solitary change in their Playing XI against RCB. The Kolkata outfits played Anukul Roy against the hosts. But the spinner was extremely economical against a formidable batting lineup of Bengaluru. Anukul Roy went on to bowl just 2 overs where he gave away just 6 runs. It is still a surprise why Shreyas Iyer didn’t allow the 25-year old to finish his full quota.

SKY IN or SKYFALL?

Ace Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav missed out back to back matches for his side in IPL 2024. But the World Number 1 batter in T20Is is inching closer to a comeback. SKY took to social media to post a cryptic post about his potential comeback. However, he soon deleted it. SKY apparently had posted a loading sign, which can possible mean only one thing – His much awaited comeback for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024.

RCB Achieves Rare Milestone

In the RCB vs KKR clash, the hosts went on to register a rare and massive milestone. Royal Challengers Bengaluru became only the second team in the history of IPL to smash 1500 sixes. In their innings RCB slammed 11 sixes which was enough to cross the 1500 six mark. Earlier, Mumbai Indians became the first team to smash this rare record.

Ohhh! Slipped and Missed Again!

Kolkata Knight Riders have managed to etch out 2 wins out of 2 in their campaign so far in IPL 2024. But in terms of field, the team has been sub par compared to others. In their 2 games, the Team in Purple has gone to miss a total of 7 catches. Fielding plays a vital role for any team in terms of restricting the opponent from scoring big. RCB’s Glenn Maxwell received such lifelines after 2 of his high shots were dropped.

Sunil Narine – Record-MAN

KKR’s Sunil Narine broke a quite a few personal records in the recent game. He played his 500th T20 game. Bowling first, he managed to bag the crucial wicket of Glenn Maxwell. He produced a brilliant all-round performance as he let his bat speak too. Narine missed out on his fifty, scoring 47 which also is his highest score since 2020.

Dinesh Karthik – Finisher 3.0?

Dinesh Karthik has been in deft touch in IPL 2024. A couple of years back he made a stunning comeback, donning the new role of Finisher 2.0. And now he is likely to be in a new personal – Finisher 3.0. Karthik has been playing some solid cameo knocks. Karthik slammed a 8-ball 20 knock, hitting 3 huge sixes, providing a perfect finish. But questions still arise as to why Rajat Patidar and Anuj Rawat were sent ahead of him.

Yash Dayal’s Trauma Continues

Yash Dayal’s 5-consecutive sixes trauma is probably still on his mind. A year has passed, but the pacer is yet to forget it’s prangs. It was against this very team when the incident happened. Yash Dayal was expensive for his side as he leaked 46 runs in his 4 over spell. He will get a slight comfort knowing Mohammed Siraj gave away equal runs in just 3 overs.
