We waited and waited for the BCCI to name the Indian squad for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. However, it looks like the announcement will come on Thursday (July 18). However, there have been various reports on which bunch of players India include and who will rest out. The major buzz, however, has been on who will Gautam Gambhir appoint as the skipper in T20Is. With Rohit Sharma retiring from the format, the BCCI should be locking in their next permanent skipper and have a long-term vision at T20 World Cup 2026.
BCCI already denying Gautam Gambhir?
Gautam Gambhir, India’s new head coach, is already facing resistance from the BCCI over his coaching staff choices. Gambhir’s wishes are not being fully endorsed by the board. While Abhishek Nayar may be accepted as assistant coach, Gambhir’s picks for bowling coach, R Vinay Kumar and L Balaji, were rejected. Ryan ten Doeschate’s proposal as fielding coach received a lukewarm response, and Morne Morkel was also turned down as a potential bowling coach.
Gambhir choosing Suryakumar over Pandya?
When Rohit Sharma used to rest out from Team India’s T20 matches, we knew that Hardik Pandya would take care of captaincy duties. In fact, he was deemed as the permanent skipper once Hitman retired. However, as per reports, there is a huge chance of not Pandya, but Suryakumar Yadav, to lead India in T20Is against Sri Lanka. While SKY has led India handful of times, it may not be a wise decision.
