The 35-year-old will become the youngest ICC Chairperson when he takes the office from December 1, 2024. Apart from this, we saw another veteran sign up in the Legends League Cricket (LLC). And the rumour mill of IPL 2025 continued, this time, relating to KL Rahul and his franchise the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Jay Shah is the new ICC Chairman!
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, has been elected unopposed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). At 35, he will be the youngest head of the ICC. Shah will assume charge on December 1, succeeding Greg Barclay. As per the ICC rules, the nominations for the Chair are filed by the existing directors. Shah was the sole nominee, and a handful of sets of nominations were filed on his behalf. His three-year term can be extended for another three years. With his election, Shah will have to step down from his BCCI position.
What is brewing at LSG for KL Rahul?
KL Rahul’s future with LSG hangs in the balance. Amidst retention rumors, LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka has scheduled a press conference to address the issue. The conference will be in Kolkata on Wednesday. Recent tensions between the owner and the captain have fueled speculation about Rahul’s departure. However, it looks like things might be go off track as far as LSG and KL Rahul are concerned.
Dinesh Karthik returns to cricket!
After Shikhar Dhawan, it is Dinesh Karthik, who has signed up for the upcoming Legends League Cricket (LCC). Karthik, who announced his retirement from international cricket in June, will represent Southern Superstars. Dhawan, who retired from all forms of cricket last week, will also be part of the league.
India squad for Women’s T20 World Cup!
The BCCI has announced India’s 15-member squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup next month. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the side, with Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain. Shreyanka Patil is included subject to her fitness. Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia and all-rounder Shreyanka Patil’s inclusion in the squad depends on their fitness as well. However, there were no places for Harleen Deol and Shikha Pandey.
Out goes Siraj, Umran & Jadeja
Late changes to the Duleep Trophy squads. Ace pacer Mohammed Siraj was ruled out due to illness, and Navdeep Saini, who was playing DPL, was named as his replacement. Additionally, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been released from the squad, likely to receive a well-deserved break before the upcoming India vs Bangladesh Test series. Umran Malik was also released in place of Gaurav Yadav of Madhya Pradesh.
Shakib Al Hasan will play!
Shakib Al Hasan will participate in the second Pakistan vs Bangladesh Test match. This comes despite recent controversy surrounding his involvement in a murder case amid civil unrest in Bangladesh. Shakib was named in an FIR following a garment factory worker’s death. While in Pakistan for the Test series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) received a notice suggesting Shakib should be barred from playing. BCB President Faruque Ahmed had previously stated that a decision on Shakib’s future would be made after the first Test. Despite these issues, Shakib has been cleared to play in the second Test match.
