DRS, April 6: Every performance is a step closer to T20 WC berth, let’s see who makes it

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

It is not very often that Chennai Super Kings succumb to an easy defeat. But Friday’s match was an indication, that no team in the IPL 2024 can be taken lightly, even Sunrisers Hyderabad. First skipper Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar produced miserly spells to restrict the opposition to 165 only, and then Abhishek Sharma & Aiden Markram produced a masterclass with the bat, to chase down the target with 11 balls to spare.

DRS, April 5: Shashank Singh showdown, Shubman Gill’s blitzkrieg light up Ahmedabad

All-in-all, it was a clinical performance by the Men in Orange, who would certainly like to redeem themselves this year, after a poor last few seasons. And this win over CSK, is certainly a step in the right direction for them. So, here comes you dose of Daily Review System for April 6.

It’s Abhishek Sharma vs Shivam Dube

If there’s two Indian batsmen in the tournament, who are making a strong case for themselves to make it to the T20 World Cup, it is SRH’s Abhishek, and CSK’s Dube. Both men have been in scintillating form for their teams, scoring crucial runs, at a rapid pace too. On Friday, while Dube scored 45 from 24, Abhishek responded with 37 from 12. Who would you pick for the WC, is the question.

Feeling the Heat, Ruturaj

26 from 21 vs SRH. Scores of 15, 46 & 1 in the previous three matches. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad isn’t having the best of times with the bat this year. Plus, his team isn’t winning. It seems like, for now, the youngster is burdened with the tall task of leading a team that MS Dhoni in the ranks. He would soon have to look to end his slump, for the sake of his team, before it’s too late.

Kudos to Bhuvi & Cummins

It was these two bowlers who came up with miserly spells in the first innings, that halted Chennai to a below-par 165. They gave away only 57 runs together, in eight overs picking up two wickets. That meant, the CSK team was stifled for runs, at the start of the innings, the middle, and the death. That paved the way for SRH win.

Mukesh Choudhary Gamble Doesn’t Payoff

In the absence of injured Matheesha Pathirana, CSK had to get in Mukesh. But then he was taken to the cleaners by Abhishek, who slammed 27 runs in the over, making sure that Mukesh didn’t get another over in the match. What made it even more miserable for the bowler, that he ended up bowling a no ball, that resulted in a free-hit, that was dispatched for a six.

Is CSK’s Batting a Concern?

It seems like CSK batting is going through a slump. Except for Shivam Dube, who has scored 148 runs in 4 matches, the others have failed to live up to the expectations. The next best batsman for them, Ajinkya Rahane has scored 119 in four matches, at a strike rate of 130. Skipper Ruturaj has scored 87 at a strike rate of 119 only.

Unusual Klaasen

Heinrich Klaasen played an uncharacteristic innings for SRH, against CSK. He scored 10 off 11 balls, hitting only one four. That’s a strike-rate of 90. It’s poor for a batsman, whose strike-rate in IPL this year has been over 200. Having said that, it did not make any difference on the result of the match, as SRH cruised home by six wickets to spare.
