Rishabh Pant and breaking records that look impossible to shatter go hand in hand. The Delhi Capital skipper turned the clock back to 2021 when he ended Australia’s domination at the Gabba. This time it was an IPL side, none other than KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants who boasted of a 13-0 streak when it came to defending totals above 160 runs. Apart from getting to yet another personal milestone, Pant also led his side to pick up their 2nd win of the IPL.
The trend of the emergence of new stars, old horses firing up again continues to occur with each passing game in IPL 2024. On that note, let’s take a look at stories that made Friday a memorable start to the weekend.
Goodbye, defending kings LSG
Lucknow Super Giants had previously held an unblemished record of defending totals exceeding 160 runs. In all 13 prior attempts, LSG emerged victorious. However, a determined Delhi Capitals batting attack broke the streak, becoming the first team to successfully chase down such a 160+ target against the formidable LSG bowling attack.
Another day, another star rises
Jake Fraser McGurk, DC’s latest recruit, was on absolute fire against LSG. Fraser registered his first IPL fifty on his debut. He made 55 runs in just 35 balls with an aggressive strike rate of 157.14. During his innings, he smashed 5 sixes and 2 fours as well.
More records tumble
Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan created history in the game against DC. The duo stitched together the highest-ever 8th wicket partnership in the IPL. The duo put up a 73-run stand off 42 deliveries, guiding LSG to a formidable 163-run total.
Pant on fire!
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant achieved yet another milestone as he went past the 3000-run mark in IPL. The feat came against LSG at the Ekana stadium in Lucknow. The ‘Miracle Man’ took 104 IPL games to surpass the 3000-run mark, averaging 34.61.
Chinaman rattles LSG top-order
Kuldeep Yadav’s immense talent was on show in Lucknow as he ripped apart the LSG batting order. He sent back both Stoinis and Pooran in his first over. To dig the hosts under even more pressure, the left-arm chinaman took the prized wicket of KL Rahul, who was looking set for a big score.
Thala fever refuses to die down
Fans can’t keep calm when Mahendra Singh Dhoni enters the field and it is evident with every CSK game. MS Dhoni’s entry before the toss at CSK vs RCB tops the list of loudest moments in IPL 2024, as fans sent the noise level shooting up to 130 decibels.
Who Won Yesterday’s IPL match?
Delhi Capitals beat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets on Friday, to register their only second win of the season. Once again Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the show for the team, as he returned with figures of 3/20. As far as batting is concerned, Jake Fraser McGurk and Rishabh Pant made massive contributions, to take the team over the line.
