DRS, April 1: Thala Dharisanam after 308 days in Spidey’s day out

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

What can be more sweeter for fans? Thala MS Dhoni finally getting to bat or an end to a 903-day wait for Rishabh Pant to get a fifty in IPL? Well, it was indeed a good day for cricket fans who got to witness both on the same day, in the same game.

While MSD turned the clock back with his powerful hits, Rishabh Pant hammered a 31-ball fifty after making his comeback to cricket. In Ravi Shasri’s language, Dhoni finished his innings off in style with a six, alebit in a losing cause. Here is your dose of Daily Review System for Arpil 1.

Thala dharishanam!

Finally, fans got to see the legendary MS Dhoni in action! After a year and two games later, MSD returned to the crease and boy he did stun the fans at Vizag and beyond. Thala started off his innings in a vintage fashion with a boundary. Well, it’s safe to say no one was hurt or disappointed with MSD (37 off 16 deliveries) despite not being able to take the team across the line.

Comeback means Pant!

Rishabh Pant did the impossible! After a 903-day gap, the DC skipper scored his first IPL fifty. What makes it more special is that the keeper-batter’s ability to display the very same prowess that fans are used to seeing him display.

In Mohit Sharma, we trust?

Mohit Sharma delivered for Gujarat Titans when the side needed it the most! Well, it’s safe to say the pacer turned the clock back to his CSK days when he was in his prime in bowling in the death overs. With this magical spell, one question comes to the mind of fans. Will it pave way for him to make a case for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad?

Hasaranga blues for SRH!

In a big blow for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of IPL 2024. Hasaranga will not play the tournament owing to a left heel injury. SRH will miss the services of the all-rounder who is capable of delivering with both bat and ball consistently.

From Sri Lanka to CSK, with love

Matheesha Pathirana reminded everyone yet again as to why he is called ‘Baby Malinga’. First, he took a superman catch to get rid of the dangerous David Warner. If that wasn’t enough, he bowled two fiery 150 kmph and 149.5 kmph toe crushing yorkers in one over to get rid of Mitchell Marsh and Tristian Stubbs.

Warner carnage!

Delhi Capitals opener David Warner added yet another feather to his studded cap. The southpaw became the first overseas batsman in the history of the tournament to score 6500 career runs.

Too hot to head out?

The turnout for GT vs SRH at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad was lukewarm. The enormous stadium looked like it was only half full even as the Shubman Gill-led side clinched a nail-biting victory. Despite the stadium’s capacity to host a lakh fans, the temperature in Ahmedabad perhaps better suited fans to watch the game from television.

Mayank slow poison for SRH

SRH opener Mayank Agarwal had yet another poor outing for the side. Mayank managed to score 16-runs from 17 balls with a strike rate of less than 100. With poor outings in the past three games, the future doesn’t look that bright for the Karnataka batter.

Vizag’s love for Miracle Man Pant

Fans at Delhi Capitals’s new home Vishakhapatnam showered love on ‘Miracle Man’ Rishabh Pant. A huge banner with a message – ‘you will never walk alone’ – was hoisted from the stands. An hour later, the swashbuckling southpaw smashed his first IPL fifty since 2021.

A Royal reunion of Indians

Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma and Rajasthan Royals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin caught up at Wankhede staidum in Mumbai ahead of MI vs RR clash. The duo, who last shared a dressing room during IND vs ENG series, posed for pictures as both sides trained.

All juice and no tension for Nehra

Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra seemed as relaxed as ever during the side’s clash against SRH. The IPL outfit shared a photo of the head coach looking cold as ever with a glass of juice in his hand waiting for the match to get over. ‘Match jeetwanu, juice peevanu, majjani life’ the caption read on Twitter.

Russel-Rinku’s mid-air bonhomie

Forget their combination on the field, the duo of Rinku Singh and Andre Russell share a great partnership in the air too! As KKR jetted off to their next location, both destructive finishers shared a light moment on the flight, singing a song! Check it out.
