DRS, April 1: Samson reports to CoE, SRH seeks BCCI’s help & Bumrah to miss 8 matches for MI?

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

The last day of the month of March was once again dominated by the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 news. We got an exclusive update regarding Mumbai Indians (MI) and Jasprit Bumrah. We heard that Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson reported to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). In other RR news, their vice-captain Riyan Parag is under fire for his ‘rude’ behaviour.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) seek BCCI’s help regarding a matter with the state board, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach has illuminated everyone as to why MS Dhoni was batting at No. 9. In non-IPL news, the India vs England Test series will be renamed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Jasprit Bumrah out for 2-3 more weeks

Bumrah has missed 3 matches for MI in the IPL 2025 season, and there is a strong possibility he won’t be back for 5 further games. InsideSport understands that BCCI CoE expects that the pacer should be fit by the second or third week of April. However, given the board wants to be extremely careful and Bumrah’s history when it comes to injury isn’t great, they might push that date back.

Sanju Samson reports to NCA

Samson was told by the BCCI CoE that he isn’t to be RR’s wicketkeeper for the first three matches of the IPL 2025 season. So after these games, Samson has reported to CoE. From Guwahati, he’s travelled to Bengaluru. The medical staff will now decide whether he’s fit to be RR’s gloveman or not.

SRH wants BCCI’s help

Amid an ongoing tussle with the HCA president, SRH has asked BCCI for help. The 2016 champions have called for a meeting with HCA after accusing their president of blackmail. SRH claim that 10% of total tickets are being requested for their home matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

England vs India Test series to be renamed

The ECB has decided to rename the England vs India Test series. Known as the Pataudi Trophy since 2007, the English board has written to the Pataudi family, telling them they’ll retire the trophy before the upcoming 5-match tour.

Why MS Dhoni batted at No. 9

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has revealed why MS Dhoni came to bat at number 9 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He told the press after a 6-run defeat against the Rajasthan Royals that Dhoni has been having knee issues, which means he can’t bat for long. Therefore, the wicketkeeper picks and chooses when to come to the middle.
