New BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia likely to discuss future of Ro-Ko with Ajit Agarkar after BGT loss

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were horrible with the bat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series

The India Cricket Team was handed a humiliating 3-1 loss in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. And this sees a change in the team dynamics. The Team is set to undergo a massive transition with the seniors likely to be dropped in paving the way for youngsters. And this has led to the board tasking new BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia to send a stern message to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Both the veteran batters failed to get runs in Down Under. Virat however managed a solitary century in the first Test at Perth. The BCCI is set to hold its Special General Meeting in a few days. And with that the places of both Kohli and Rohit in the Test team is up for discussions. As per reports, the board has asked Saikia to speak with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar to solve the Ro-Ko conundrum heading into the new year.

BCCI displeased with Rohit-Kohli

“The message is going very bad. People can be sweet pawns on the internet but BCCI has to run cricket in the country and it should also be seen running it. Now there is a need to give such a strong message that no player should consider himself bigger than the game. Now there is a need to choose a new team. The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar is of BCCI and the new secretary should call him, and also give a strict message,” a former BCCI official told Dainik Jagran.

The BCCI’s Special General Meeting is set to held on 12th January. And with Devajit Saikia taking over the post left by Jay Shah, the new Secretary has a tough job on his hands. As per reports, Saikia is asked to speak with Ajit Agarkar sternly. The board is very displeased with anynplayer who believesbthat he is bigger than game.

It remains to be seen what happens to the red ball career of both the star batters. While the duo have retired from T20Is, they haven’t taken any call from Test cricket after the humiliating in the IND vs AUS Test series. India’s next Test series comes in the summer when the team will travel to England for 5 match Test series which will fall under the WTC 2025-27 cycle.
