Du Plessis will finally get his title shot after missing out last time around. The South African was supposed to headline UFC 293 against Adesanya. However, he had to pull out and Strickland took his place. Eventually, the American won the belt and will defend it against Du Plessis early next year at UFC 297.
Dricus Du Plessis Sends Strong Warning to Khamzat Chimaev in 185 lbs. Division
Dricus Du Plessis Warns Khamzat Chimaev – “he’s going to find out what strength really feels like.”
Du Plessis recently joined James Lynch on his YouTube channel to talk about his title fight against Strickland. The pair addressed different topics including Israel Adesanya’s loss, Kamaru Usman’s call-out, and more. The South African then addressed the situation of Khamzat Chimaev.
Speaking about the Swedish fighter, Du Plessis said, “He’s going to try and take me down, and he should. And I don’t think he realizes the power difference between 170 and 185 lbs. And in terms of style, you know, he tries to outpower everybody he fights.
Because he wants to show how strong he is. If he fights me and he fights that way, he’s going to find out what strength really feels like.” Therefore, with these comments, Du Plessis has made it very clear of what he thinks of Chimaev as a middleweight.
The Swede has criticized every fighter in the middleweight division, and he claimed he would smash Du Plessis. However, he has yet to compete against anyone from the top five in the middleweight division. And Du Plessis has warned him that the same style of fighting won’t work.
While many may laugh at these comments from the South African, we have to also remember that Du Plessis knocked out Robert Whittaker. Therefore, he is definitely a powerful middleweight.
What do you make of these comments from Dricus Du Plessis? Do you think he could beat Khamzat Chimaev? How do you see the potential Du Plessis vs Chimaev fight going?
