UP Warriorz need to make smart moves in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction to change their fortunes in the upcoming season. The franchise will aim to build a team capable of winning the title and reaching the final for the first time. In the first two seasons, they did not make it to the final, finishing third in the inaugural season, and failing to make the playoffs in the second season.
With the WPL auction to be held on the December 15 in Bengaluru. UP Warriorz have retained their core team and released only four players while traded Danni Wyatt to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Alyssa Healy will be leading the side in the next season as well.

UP Warriorz have kept a strong squad, captained by Alyssa Healy, with key players such as Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, and Tahlia McGrath. The addition of Chamari Athapaththu and Grace Harris strengthens their all-round options, while emerging talents like Shweta Sehrawat bring exciting potential to the team.
Star England spinner Sophie Ecclestone have been exceptional in the WPL with 27 wickets from 17 matches. Deepti Sharma was outstanding in the Women’s Hundred, the 27-year-old has not been in top form since. Playing for Gujarat, she scored 385 runs and took 19 wickets in 17 matches.
UP Warriorz at WPL 2025: Gaps remaining to fill before auction
After spending INR 11.1 crore, they have INR 3.9 crore left in their purse for the upcoming auction. They need to fill three slots, including one overseas player. A top-order batter who can open with captain Alyssa Healy will be a priority. Kiran Navgire has not been as effective as an opener, and Danni Wyatt has been traded to RCB.
UP needs to strengthen their batting with players who can deliver consistent performances. It was also surprising that they released fast bowler Lauren Bell, as she has the potential to challenge batters, especially considering they lack a strong pacer in the squad.
