Mayank Rawat & Simar’jeet’ Singh star in DPLT20 Final for East Delhi Riders, Priyansh-Badoni fail

Mayank Rawat's 78* off 39 proved to be a match-winning knock for the East Delhi Riders vs South Delhi Superstarz!

And after 33 high-octane clashes, we finally have ourselves the winners of the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20. Himmat Singh-led East Delhi Riders went past the final hurdle in the last over in a game that ebbed and flowed against the South Delhi Superstarz.

The ‘Mayank Rawat’ show!

East Delhi Riders, who opted to bat first, despite some cloudy weather conditions, lost all their key batters early. Anuj Rawat went for 10, Sujal Singh for 5 and even skipper Himmat Singh scored 20 off 20. They were 4/69 after the 10-over mark.

However, Mayank Rawat showcased why he is known as ‘mini Virender Sehwag’ of Delhi cricket. The lad, who packs a mighty punch, sent some lusty blows. The match-changing over was the ultimate over, where Ayush Badoni brought in himself only to get hit for not one or two but five maximums, courtesy of Mayank Rawat.

Rawat, who has been part of Delhi’s T20 team, bludgeoned 78 runs off only 39 balls at an insane strike rate of 200.00. He won the Player of the Match for his insane knock and a wicket in the later half of the match.

Tejasvi’s knock went in vain, Simarjeet Singh stars!

The game seemed lop-sided for the majority of the second innings. Priyansh Arya, who won the Orange Cap, faltered. Skipper Ayush Badoni, who operated at a strike rate of 225, seemed to be low in confidence after his last over of the first innings, was outdone by Simarjeet Singh. Whenever South Delhi looked to build a partnership, they kept losing wickets. By the time they reached 110-run mark, they lost 7 wickets and some of the spectators even started leaving the stadium.

However, one player held his fort and it was Tejasvi Dahiya. South Delhi Superstarz keeper Tejasvi showed a great application and hit balls all around the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The lad hit four lusty maximums and caressed seven boundaries to take his score to 68. He didn’t care about his personal score as the DPL T20 championship was on the line. He stood in between East Delhi and the win before Simar’jeet’ Singh paved the way for his franchise. Despite going haywire in the first half of the penultimate over, he came back strong to dismiss Tejasvi. Although Digvesh Rathi tried his best to change the game, Rounak defended 4 runs off the last ball to script history for East Delhi Riders!
