Double Duty: Mumbai Indians coach Edwards extends contract with Sixers

With this extension, Edwards is set to navigate a unique challenge, balancing her coaching roles with the Mumbai Indians and the Sydney Sixers.

Charlotte Edwards, the legendary English cricketer and current coach of the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024), has committed to extending her tenure as head coach of the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) for another two seasons.

Immediate Impact and Future Goals:

Edwards, who took over the reins of the Sixers two years ago, quickly made her mark. She led the team to the WBBL final in her first season, falling narrowly short to the Adelaide Strikers.

While the Sixers missed out on the finals last season due to injuries, Edwards remains confident in the team’s potential, particularly with star players like Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, and Maitlan Brown all secured for the coming seasons.

Beyond Mumbai Indians: Edwards’ coaching experience

Edwards, known for her astute cricketing mind, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the table. Beyond her success with the Mumbai Indians in the inaugural WPL season, she has also enjoyed successful coaching stints in England.

Mutual Admiration and Strong Leadership:

The decision to extend Edwards’ contract was met with unanimous praise. “I’m delighted to have signed for another two years with the Sixers,” Edwards herself expressed, highlighting her enjoyment of working with the players and staff and her eagerness to build on their established foundation.

Sydney Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes echoed the sentiment, commending Edwards’ exceptional coaching skills and her positive impact on the team culture. Haynes emphasized the importance of securing Edwards’ leadership and expressed full confidence in both the coach and the playing group for the upcoming seasons.

Balancing Act:

With this extension, Edwards is set to navigate a unique challenge, balancing her coaching roles with the Mumbai Indians and the Sydney Sixers. Her dedication and expertise will be key in ensuring the continued success of both teams in their respective leagues.
